xserver-xorg-1.3.0 and xrandr-1.2 hit gutsy sometime yesterday. I've deleted my xorg.conf and successfully started gdm! This is pretty exciting :-D
Only problem so far is that it didn't auto-recognize my synaptics touchpad, it loaded the regular mouse driver. I'll file another bug for that. FYI - I'm using a Radeon 9250 mobile graphics chip. It loaded the radeon driver and got the resolution correct and DRI even works.
