Thanks for reporting.

Have you tried using Boot-Repair to restore GRUB (the component that
allows Ubuntu to boot and that gave you an error)? You can install and
run it from an Ubuntu live CD (if you have got Internet access): boot
your Ubuntu live CD, connect to the Internet, then follow the
instructions at <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair>, section
"2nd option : install Boot-Repair in Ubuntu". After the main Boot-Repair
window appears, click on "Recommended repair". If the repair does not
succeed, the program will give you an URL; in that case, paste it here
so that I'll be able to determine what caused the error.

Tell me if it works; in these days, I'll try to reproduce the problem
myself to see if it is still present in the next release of Ubuntu and,
if so, I'll tell the developers so that they can fix the bug.

One last thing: you mentioned an antivirus software in your report. Do
you also have Windows installed? If so, which antivirus software have
you got? (Anyway, Windows antivirus software usually will not interfere
with Ubuntu, nor will it run in it, because it's a completely different
operating system).

Thanks again for making Ubuntu better!
