Public bug reported:

I've installed the latest version of Ubuntu 11.10 on two computers. When
I connect my Western Digital 4 Tbyte disk(s) it can work with them.
However, if I log out and log in again, or if I reboot the system with
the disk connected, Unity will be in an unusable state: the panel area
on top of the screen changes its color, most of the icons in this panel
are gone. It looks as if Unity would halt somewhere building its screen.
When I start an applications, the fonts are primitive. Many applications
do not start, or behave strangely. It is unusable. The situation can
only be resolved by disconnecting the disk, and rebooting.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
