Public bug reported:

Xubuntu 11.10, i386

I would like to have XFCE4 panel in vertical orientation on the left (or
right). There is an option in to configure panel in vertical
orientation. I like it. But the developers did't test this option well
and the layout is not usable:

1) window buttons are placed vertically and I cannot change them to
horizontal orientation (that is logical, because we write from left to
right, not from top to down); space on panel will be used more
efficiently.

2) some icons and indicators are too big when I change panel width; like
keyboard layout indicator or workspace switch

I attach a screenshot. Layout is not nice.

LXDE develops did much better work when they thought about panel design.
I attach a screenshot of LXDE desktop with panel in vertical
orientation; that is almost perfect design! I would like to have similar
layout in XFCE4 desktop.

WinXP programmers did great work (long time ago) too; I attach a WinXP
panel in similar configuration for your reference.
