Reinstallation didn't make any difference. What is puzzling indeed is that the invocation in the upstart script does NOT generate any log file AT ALL never mind the -v setting on the command line. Only when I invoke it later manually in a terminal window the first log entry is created. It seems that it immediately exits before doing anything in the conf file...
