I'm on Ubuntu 11.10 and using Core i7 2670QM. Suddenly from today this kind of issue has started. But it's little different.
Sometimes it shows 8 cores and sometimes just 1. I don't need to reboot the system. this happens at random interval. The system is updated till date. (Updated in the afternoon to be specific and seen this issue since evening).
