Public bug reported:

On my 64bit oneiric machine, recently upgraded from natty, I try to use gdm
instead of lightdm.
It's working, but I noticed that after login there is no "change user
indicator" (the one with the user name) in the unity top-panel , just the clock
and then the logout/systemsettings indicator.

When unity is launched from lightdm the indicator shows up, just when
launched from gdm it's gone.

On my machine this is 100% reproductible.
