In Dapper we needed to add this line to enable pango so that Firefox renders Urdu web pages properly: MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=0 The situation is same in Feisty so what we need to do is that this line automatically gets inserted when someone installs urdu support package, language-pack-ur, language-pack-gnome-ur, language-pack-kde-ur, ttf- nafees Also please note that the Urdu Pakistan keyboard layout (/etc/X11/xkb/symbols/pk) that comes with Ubuntu is totally useless. 99% users change this to a phonetic keyboard layout.
