After upgrade to Oneiric, many applications requiring the authentication dialog
stopped working.
* I am detecting exactly the same bug with the same error message for
software-properties-gtk.
* gnome-control-center - User Accounts - Unlock fails with the following error
message:
(gnome-control-center:4908): Gtk-WARNING **: Error acquiring permission: Failed
to acquire permission for action-id org.freedesktop.accounts.user-administration
* software-center - Install button fails with the following error message on
console:
 softwarecenter.backend - WARNING - _on_trans_error:
org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.Error.Failed: ('system-bus-name', {'name':
':1.92'}): org.debian.apt.install-or-remove-packages

I am not using Gnome Shell, but Unity, but I am not sure if trying the
Classical Gnome Interface with and without Compiz messed the
configuration in the first place. When I tried the Gnome Interface and I
switched back to Unity, initially the Dash and the Unity Panel were
missing and I had to enable the Unity Plugin of Compiz manually to fix
Unity.
