Public bug reported: LightDM fails with the nvidia-current package and ends up at a terminal screen with a failure from plymouth and lightdm. I did a workaround and installed GDM and chose that over lightdm and subsequently the reboot took me right back to the GDM login screen and GPU acceleration was working with the nvidia-current drivers.
