I have used the application Memory Map under Wine for years, in fact I
posted some of the entries for it in the Application Database. It has
always worked well for me, through several upgrades of the underlying
OS.

Yesterday, I upgraded my system to Kubuntu 11.10 by a clean installation
(retaining my /home partition) and today I re-installed Wine. When I
launch Memory Map I get a dialog headed 'Program Error' that says 'The
program MMNav.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.
We are sorry....'

The supporting info simply points me here.

Since this has worked for so long, I have no idea what version of Wine
was running on 11.04, but clearly something has changed. Any help as to
what to look for and how I can get more info about the problem would be
appreciated.

Should have mentioned, Notepad++ still works. as does Adobe Reader 8, so
presumably there is something incompatible between the version of Wine
that comes with Kubuntu 11.10 and Memory Map, rather than a global
problem.

FYI, the MMNav.exe file is at '/home/terry/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program

'/home/terry/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Memory-Map/European Edition/'.
It doesn't seem to be anywhere else.

Is the application available for download, and what was the particular
version of Wine being used before the upgrade?

As I said in the original bug report, I have been using Wine to run this
program for so long that I don't actually know which version was in Kubuntu
11.04. I've tried searching the (K)Ubuntu site, but can't seem to find a page
that tells me what the package versions were.

Looking at the release history for Wine, I see that the version that I'm using
(1.3.28) was only released on 9th Sept this year, so it's pretty recent. You
guys seem to be going through versions pretty quickly and I suspect that the
version included with Kubuntu 11.04 couldn't have been later than 1.3.16.

I hope that helps.

I ran Winetricks and see nothing about installing Microsoft runtime.
Could you explain what you mean? I don't have a licensed copy of
Windows that I could use on this machine.

OK. I realised what you probably mean and am currently installing MS Visual
C++ 2005, (eg .net framework).

I'll let you know what happens.

Assuming that I've installed the right runtime, that doesn't seem to
have worked.

One thing I've noticed. If I try to run 'Browse C: Drive from the Start
Menu', I get:

'Unable to run the command specified. The file or folder
file:///home/terry/Documents/.wine/dosdevices/c: does not exist.'

Why is it looking in my Documents directory? The correct path is
'/home/terry/.wine/dosdevices/c:/'. Also, if it's searching the wrong
path. How come Notepad++ and Acrobat work?

That's a packaging bug not related to Wine, see bug 28752.

Thanks. That worked.

Is there anything else I can add to the corresponding report on the

That's not a Kubuntu bug, and has nothing to do with your upgrade.

So what was the cause. It worked before the upgrade and then it didn't.

I'm sorry, I'm still confused. Are you saying that Wine is the cause?
I definitely will have upgraded Wine as part of the update as I said in
my response above.

If Kubuntu Upgrade isn't the cause and Wine isn't the cause (the bug is
still marked Unconfirmed), what is?
