My Fujitsu-siemens laptop don't have USB 2.0 that's why I use the HDD through 
this card.
All the stuff work great under WinXp (I have dual-boot)
Also if I use it from the motherboard's usb 1.1 port, then no problems occour.
Although the HDD is rekognized and automounted well through the adapter,
while I use it (copy files, view pictures etc.) the programs trying to reach 
data will freeze time to time.

This bug seems to be related to the NEC chipset of the adapter, as the
