I reply to Harald's proposed workaround I'd like to add that both of them don't seem to work for me. Akonaditray is started regardless of having autostart entries in the user's .config directory or not. It can only be disabled completely if all */autostart/akonaditray.desktop files are deleted, including the system-wide one under /usr/share (which of course keeps coming back after every KDE upgrade).
