I can also confirm this bug. I had to downgrade xserver-xorg-core to 1.0.2-0ubuntu10.1 on both machines I have here. One is using the "nvidia" driver and the other one the "sis" driver. X -configure tries all drives and cannot load anyone. I would also suggest that this should be a critical bug.
