Taylor - I know that is a valid solution for many situations but it is not really a workaround, that is using the wrong users environment settings.
I have been working for 3 years with the Amazon Cloud from inside a big corporate and I am sick to the back teeth of these proxy issues that have been floating around for years. For every one that gets fixed another creeps in. I suspect the entire approach to proxy configuration is wrong: it needs to be invisible to the applications, they should not require additional code to support proxy servers when the whole thing can be transparent. I think the best solution would be to run a lightweight forwarding-only transparent proxy server locally. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556293 Title: apt/aptitude need to take global proxy settings into account To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/556293/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
