This bug is still present in Oneiric Ocelot:

Kernel: 3.0.0-11
Chipset: AMD A50M Fusion
Mainboard: Zotac Fusion
Hard drive: Samsung Spinpoint F4EG 2TB drive.

OS is unaffected because it's running from a separate SSD.

I don't know how to test the provided options that work in 2% of cases
though, because I am only getting this error a thousand times after
badblocks -wsv -t random /dev/sdb reaches about 50%, which takes a good
6 hours.

Should someone change the importance to Critical? This is a terrible bug
and the best fix seems to be for people to buy random new hardware until
it doesn't affect them. It's been present a good 5 (!!) releases of
Ubuntu now.
