Public bug reported:

Many (but not all) devices including an Intel 82579LM NIC have a
hardware fault that results in packet loss that is worked around by the
following recent patch: http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/109926/

More detail provided here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713315

It would be useful for this patch to be applied to the distribution
kernel in current supported releases as this fault exists on a large
number of recent devices.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Incomplete
