I'm not sure if it's related to this bug.

I just tried to install Xubunutu (also tested it with Kubuntu and same result).
The installer did work fine until he started the hardware detection. He starts
to hang with a DecChip 5*** (I don't remember the correct number) and with ps I
noticed that modprobe had status 'D' and took a lot of CPU. I've killed the
process after a hour and had the same problem with some other drivers. Afther
the whole process, I could launch xubuntu without any problem. The only thing I
noticed was that my soundcard (a Hercules Digifire 7.1) didn't work at all -
although the chipset (a circus logic or something) was recognized if I took a
look at the available hardware information. I don't know if this is a result of
the installer that hang on the hardware detection or is the cause.
I've installed Ubuntu in the past without any problem. I did the install on a
old computer, x86 320MB Ram 400Mhz.
