Public bug reported:

Print settings in CP differ to final default dialog. Especially high resolution
photo which can introduce spool data anomaly/print failure if both lots of
settings do not concur. There is no failure if prints are eg A4 low resolution
set in CP, for a normal A4 print, but if low res settings left in CP and final
print dialog is for photo, then problems occur as below.
Using CUPS. Problem exists on different PC, different printers, different
Ubuntu/Mint/Fedora also in Kubuntu,
EG Using a Brother MFC-795CW or HP1210 old workhorse am getting very
inconsistent results. Here is what I have to do for photo print to work: adjust
print settings in control panel. Duplicate settings prior to print (Print
dialog).
I have tried various photo programs shotwell gimp flphoto ocular none perform
better. All need the control panel/dialog, not print dialog alone for settings.
Somewhere the glue between program print dialog and print control seems errant.
This has been asked by several others, so I consider it a bug unless sorted.
