Since the upstart-udev-bridge currently does not support extended
characters (as evinced by this bug), no Upstart jobs can be relying on
such characters. Therefore following the precedent set by upower...

... we'll change the bridge to discard extended characters until there
is a proven need to support extended (maybe utf-8?) characters.
