Additional remark: The new CUPS package with workaround adds 10000 queues in 5:12 min and removes them in 2:50 min, using the command lines of comment #9, probably even faster on a head-less server without gnome- settings-daemon and system-config-printer. Most important: CUPS did not crash, all 10000 queues got created and removed correctly.
