As in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/inkscape/+bug/842564, reinstalling the binary brought it to life:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a I did a reinstall of the whole OS and noticed the installer crashed right at the end.
