Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-base

I have installed Ubuntu 6.06 on an old green imac g3. When playing
sound, I hear it is distorted when it is connected to an external
amplifier. I also have the same poblem on a similar green imac g3 with
Ubuntu 5.10 installed. The sound is not distorted in mac osx. I tried a
lot of alsamixer settings but it didn't help :(. I had to buy an
external usb audio device to have decent sound.

When hearing sound through the internal speakers, it doesn't seem to be
distorted (but it could be), but I hear the distortion very clearly when
connected to an external amplifier.

On a old blue Imac g3, the sound is not distorted, so it's only on the
green ones, appearently.

Greetings hendrik
