I have a lenovo laptop with an Atheros AR9285.

Wireless was connecting to my access point, but no traffic was flowing
(I could not even ping the access point). This was on Natty.

I upgraded to Oneiric Ocelot and the problem is still there.

Turning off security on the access point gave me a working card.

Google came up with this:

http://blog.homelinux.org/?p=327

Following the instructions there:

  sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf

and adding the following to ath9k.conf:

options ath9k nohwcrypt=1

Rebooting then solves the problem.

It seems the hwcrypt option for the card is broken. Hopefully this
modprobe fix can be included in the Ocelot release.
