Public bug reported: I don't think usbutils is the correct package for this bug, but it won't let me choose linux-image and I am not sure what the correct package is - linux-image, hal, dbus, etc. The kernel seems like a good place to start.
Bug description: I have a laptop that has 3 USB ports. Two of them generally work fine, but one of the ports does not recognize or inconsistently recognizes many devices. A simple example, is a USB key I have. In the other two ports, the following very standard exchange is seen in the output of dmesg when the key is inserted: [17181261.944000] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4 [17181262.172000] usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [17181262.176000] scsi18 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices [17181262.176000] usb-storage: device found at 4 [17181262.176000] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning [17181267.176000] usb-storage: device scan complete [17181267.180000] Vendor: LEXAR Model: DIGITAL FILM Rev: /W1. On the third port, inserting the USB key generates the following exchange: [17179819.884000] usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4 [17179820.108000] usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [17179820.108000] scsi7 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices [17179820.108000] usb-storage: device found at 4 [17179820.108000] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning [17179825.108000] usb-storage: device scan complete [17179825.276000] usb 5-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4 [17179825.416000] usb 5-1: failed to restore interface 0 altsetting 0 (error=-71) [17179825.416000] usb 5-1: USB disconnect, address 4 [17179825.528000] usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5 [17179825.752000] usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [17179825.756000] scsi8 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices [17179825.756000] usb-storage: device found at 5 [17179825.756000] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning [17179830.756000] usb-storage: device scan complete [17179830.868000] usb 5-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5 [17179831.068000] usb 5-1: failed to restore interface 0 altsetting 0 (error=-84) It appears to repeatedly try to connect the device and fail. This sort of things keeps going for as long as I keep the key inserted. This same port has problems with many other devices, but simple devices like mice work fine. I have also tried this same USB port with the same computer and USB key when booted into Windows and the key works fine. I am using an up to date Edgy Eft installation. I will attach the output of lsusb -v to this bug as a file. ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.17 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- ubuntu edgy eft fails to discover some usb devices on some usb ports https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112491 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
