I have a similar problem. Though less severe. I seldom get my computer hang with blank screen. However, my computer can't resume from a suspend, it always ends up with the blank screen, besides that the computer seems functional, I can reboot it by "Ctrl+Alt+F1", login, then "sudo reboot".
