Can you please try booting from the CD and installing Ubuntu again, and then seeing if the error reoccurs? It seems like the installation did fail as it did not remove unnecessary packages at the end of the process.
If the issue occurs again can you please attach the files at /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman to this bug report (from the live session)?
