Feisty. That is why I am somewhat surprised that the version is lower
that that of the English support.

Yes, anthy. It has a nice icon. And I can spell a few things that
would convert to Kanji. I would think that scim behaves the same for
other methods but I may be wrong.

The problems are with the default configuration - before I made any
changes. I tried to make scim behave more sensibly so the output would
probably no longer be of much use. I guess one should get the same
behavior again after removing ~/.scim or creating a new user.

Probably. It is the way to have scim started automatically. I have no
problems with scim starting, I know I can turn it on and off with
im-switch, and it worked for me when I tried.
