Without a crash or knowing what's in the file, it will be very difficult to figure out why pidgin crashes in this case. In order to better help us identifying the issue, could you please do one of the following:
1) reproduce the crash; then use apport to report a new bug with the stack trace in Launchpad. To do this you will need to enable apport on Natty, by following the steps here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport#How_to_enable_apport . This will open a new bug automatically, so please comment back here with the new bug number so this one can be marked a duplicate or closed. 2) alternatively, further modify the file so that it doesn't contain personal information, then attach it to this bug report if you can still verify that pidgin crashes when trying to import it.
