Public bug reported: Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal - released in April 2011
The package seems to be the “nautilus-share” source package which downloads and installs samba. However, two of the packages are not located in the samba site and a 404 error is received. Executing this package results in the network connection [drivers?] being rendered unusable and the network connection disconnected, When I try to share a file folder and use Ubuntu's install File sharing utility i receive the install fail message and this detail: Details: Text ended before matching quote was found for ". (The text was '$ gpg --import samba-pubkey.asc $ gunzip samba-version.tar.gz $ gpg --verify samba-release.tar.asc gpg: Signature made Tue 20 Nov 2007 07:12:04 PM CST using \ DSA key ID 6568B7EA gpg: Good signature from "Samba Distribution Verification Key \ ‹samba-b...@samba.org› iD8DBQBOQRwobzORW2Vot+oRAiepAJoDEyEldUDoXZOoln+vB8pASgg3sACfRD5x 2lTfk3Txxmh2ar84LXvwJJA= =T+AY') Using the Ubuntu software center gave me this detail following failure. Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/s/samba/samba_3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.2_i386.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80] I tried to use the download site but the launcher I created by pasting in the text from http://samba.org/samba/download/ returns the following error. Details: Text ended before matching quote was found for ". (The text was '$ gpg --import samba-pubkey.asc $ gunzip samba-3.6.0.tar.gz. gpg: Signature made Tue 20 Nov 2007 07:12:04 PM CST using \ DSA key ID 6568B7EA gpg: Good signature from "Samba Distribution Verification Key \ ‹samba-b...@samba.org› iD8DBQBOQRwobzORW2Vot+oRAiepAJoDEyEldUDoXZOoln+vB8pASgg3sACfRD5x 2lTfk3Txxmh2ar84LXvwJJA= =T+AY') When I insert the missing ["] after the word "Key" so the line reads: gpg: Good signature from "Samba Distribution Verification Key" \ ‹samba-b...@samba.org› I get the error: Details: Failed to execute child process "$" (No such file or directory) At this point I cannot identify which process "$" is not being found, other than it is one of the failed fetches. When I tried to report this I discovered after a reboot that the networking drivers had been trashed. After searching it would return “you are not connected” I had to reboot from the dvd and re-run install. I then selected repair. And after another boot was able to get on line to report the problem. ** Affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/829133 Title: Installing file share fails and on reboot disables networking, reboot from dvd and repair required To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/829133/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
