To me, this is a bug for !amd64 systems, esp. 32 bit systems.

The bug is still there (ie. libmltmotion_est.so still missing) in Ubuntu
Natty 11.04 x86.

I think I've found the explanation of the bug. 
There is a confusing comment in motion_est module's README that may make you 
think the module requires SSE.
In fact, the module is optimized for SSE when --enable-sse is passed to 
configure, 
but also has unoptimized support.

IMHO, Debian BTS #506844 introduced an inappropriate fix, by disabling 
altogether motion_est 
instead of fixing the use of SSE in the module (or mis-enabling SSE where not 
available?).

So let's re-enable it, c.f. mlt-enable-motion_est.patch
A quick build check on !x86/!amd64 arch should make the case straight.
