Public bug reported: I had problems with upgrading from my original alpha 1 candidate, so I downloaded the alpha 3 image, installed, and upgraded the partial upgrade. I decided to see what options I had. Under the Ubuntu login, everything shows up fine, however when I tried to run the Ubuntu 2d option at login, the top right menues, shutdown/power, date/time, sound, do not appear, the network manager appears, but shows up as a square with a red circle with line through it, like the ghost busters symbol in a way. it also does not let you lick on it at all.
Something simular to this happened when the alpha one release came out, back when it was released with the gnome 2 environment. the 2d environment did the same thing. I should note that the hardware emulation, does not allow running of the 3d desktop, so the Ubuntu session also is the 2d session.
