One way to  get rid of the annoying error messages would be using the command 
"eog 2>/dev/null" instead of "eog" . What you can also do is to define as your 
alias. I just put the following line in the alias section of the ~/.bashrc 
file: 
alias eog="eog 2>/dev/null"
