I think I have misunderstood this. Sorry! The feature I was attempting to use is "line numbering". I confused this with paragraph numbering, which I struggled with in MS Word as well. (Have been a user of MSW for 20+y, and Wordstar and other products before that, and LO style handling is a vast improvement on MSW.)
