That doesn't really excuse not having it available. If I want to reproduce one 
of the rare cases in which it was used, I now can't. (Spelling rules have 
little to no impact on historical fact...)
If I want to follow the spelling rules, I'll just type "SS" - no need to 
prevent me from writing it in the first place.

(Also, in current times, spelling seems to be becoming a lost art... :-P
)
