You cannot install from the mainline-ppa through the existing PPA
mechanisms, you are not doing anything wrong. (See the Wiki site in my
previous post with the official instructions.)

Secondly, the "-rc" versions are older than the same version numbers
without "-rc". So the most recent stable version is always one without
"-rc".

Finally, for fglrx install errors on newer kernels: Use fglrx >=11.7, it
has support for Linux 3.0.0. (From www.amd.com)
