Thanks for the help. I'm afraid I have not had time to try out the 3.0 kernel and I am about to leave on a trip. It will likely be 2 months before I will be able to try. I hope I will be able to reopen the bug if it has expired before I am back. I know. I'll just check in periodically and if it likes like expiring, add a comment.
About the wired driver, yes it is a Realtek but the performance now is slow compared with Lucid and with when I first installed kernel 2.6.38-10.46. It looks like the same problem is affecting performance on both the ath9k and the realtek.
