Ahmose Solomon, Your Please check whether you are using Network Manager to configure the network connections. In case Ubuntu One finds NetworkManager service running it queries it for the network status. In case no NetworkManager is running (e.g. manual network setup or other connection manager) then Ubuntu One will attempt to connect as if the network is present. Shutting down network-manager (if unused) should solve the issue.
