Part of the issue might be due to localization: backup is translated as "Datensicherung" in German, this is what I can use in dash to find deja dup (although I doubt anyone would try using that term). I do however also see it both in system settings and in the "installed applications" section in dash with a German locale, so that seems to be another problem.
