The first attachment display_non_U was actually another copy of xorg.0.log. Perhaps you could re-attach the output of: sudo lshw -C display; lsb_release -a from the non-working machine.
But according to the xorg files, we have some interesting kernels in use: 2.6.24-29-xen : no unity 2.6.24-27-server : unity Is that your understanding?
