Public bug reported:

System: kubuntu natty 11.04, kde-4.7, all latest updates applied

This began yesterday (03 Aug 2011) after the kernel/nvidia updates were
applied. There are two problems:

1. The fonts have become so light, that the screen is unreadable. The
problem appears to be that the characters are being rendered too thin. I
have to set the fonts to bold to make the screen useable at all. I have
tried changing font settings in systemsettings > application appearance
> fonts, both size and font style. I have also tried changing fonts --
the fonts do change, but the rendering problem remains. I have also
tried forcing the dpi setting, does not solve the problem. The problem
also exists in gtk applications like firefox, and changing the settings
in systemsettings does not fix it.

2. The fonts shrink in size. All steps mentioned in (1) tried.

Restarting X server, rebooting, etc, don't solve the problem.
