Sorry for the delayed response, I had to move...far :) I was looking at this report and I actually remember it. I have not seen behavior like what was reported here in a long (very long) time (not since the original bug report). I cannot get the update-manager to crash under 'normal' use at this point, and it's been stable for me for quite some time. As far as I am concerned (as a 'non-member' of the bug team) it has been fixed at some point.
