I would like to add to this bug report that the issue is not only about not being able to unmount drives, the usb issue is more deep.
With the latest kernel transfer of large files (> 20Gb) will just crash on my computer leaving the usb in an unknown and unusable state (lsusb command will hang) with no messages in the log files.
