Public bug reported:

My upgrade using 'update-manager -d' from 11.04 to 11.10 crashed when
trying to install ubuntu-desktop.  I rebooted and tried to salvage by
running first 'dpkg --configure -a' and then 'apt-get install -f' which
removed the ubuntu-desktop package.  I'm afraid that this system is in
an unstable state.  At any rate.  When I try to re-install the package,
I get this error message:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 ubuntu-desktop : Depends: unity-2d but it is not going to be installed
