I agree completely that it is the best if this change is made upstream so that it will benefit other Linux distributions too!
I actually submitted a bug on NetworkManager in Fedora back in 2009 regarding IPv6 support by default (which was falsely claimed to be implemented in the release notes of Fedora 12), see <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=538499>. It's assigned to the (as I understand it) NM upstream developer Dan Williams. The possibility of making IPv4 optional has been mentioned repeatedly, by Pekka Savola and myself, and most recently by Jirka Klimes of Red Hat only six weeks ago. However at no point has there been any feedback from Williams regarding his thoughts on it, which is rather frustrating to be honest. Hopefully you have better luck at getting his attention to the question than I have so far - I appreciate you raising the issue on the NM list! :-) Tore ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #538499 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=538499 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/761558 Title: Default to enabling IPv6 addresses, but set to optional to bring up devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/761558/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
