Hi guys I have the same problem with pitivi on Ubuntu 10.04 (Unity and Gnome desktop).
pitivi also freezes when running a preview or when rendering the video. At first I thought that the problem is Compiz but the problem remains when logging into "Ubuntu Classic (no effects)" as well. Running pitivi from the command line returns the following error at the crucial moments: (pitivi:3558): GStreamer-WARNING **: failed to create thread: Error creating thread: Resource temporarily unavailable I've attached a logfile (11mb) in which I'm loading/opening a project from within pitivi, then try to render it and then try to run a preview.
