As was the case with 7.04, the 6.06 version that was reinstalled on the Western Digital hard drive booted twice uneventfully. The third attempt to boot produced the /bin/sh: can't access....etc. message. Although millions may successfully be runnning Ubuntu, after many weeks of playing with it, I have concluded that I am evidently not sophisticated enough to use Ubuntu. Good luck to all in sorting out this bug.
