This sounds like bug 49827 and/or bug 3731. xresprobe fails to detect
hardware and selects a "Generic Monitor" setting supporting only the
three resolutions. The workaround is to make sure the HorizSync and
VertRefresh settings in the Monitor section match your monitor's refresh
rates. See bug 3731 for discussion and details.
