Brian Thanks for your mail.
I can confirm that the installer just hangs on the "detecting filesystems" dialog. The progress bar does start to increase when the dialog first appears and the stops at around 15%. The interesting thing is that the file system had been formatted (I previously had Kubuntu Dapper and a small XP partition). I did try the installer 3 times, the last of which I left it for over an hour just to make sure it wasn't just running slow. After the first attempt the hard drive had been formatted so it would have had a clean drive to partition. Not sure if it helps but as previously mentioned the machine was a IBM Thinkpad R40e (1.2ghz 512mb and 30gb HD). I attempted to create the following partitions : 8gb root 1024 swap rest /home One other thing to note is the R40e has know issue's with the ACPI implementation, I had passed the "noacpi" parameter to the kernel at boot. Hope this information helps. If you need any further info or I can test anything for you let me know.
