Public bug reported:

On my Thinkpad T410 I have a touchapd and a trackpad. When I log in only
trackpad responds. I tried to manualny enable touchpad, but it didnt
work (xinput). I also tried alternative software like gpointing-device-
settings with no effect. The bug is present in Unity and Gnome 3
desktop. I also tried xfce4 which works fine. In Ubuntu 11.04 in classic
gnome i had no problems switching between those devices using fn+f8. I'm
using Ubuntu 11.10.
